A Very Fine and Rare Pair of Jadeite Lingguan

Lingguan, a unique thing in the Qing Dynasty, is a symbol of official performance and rank, used to identify official rank.

According to the etiquette regulations of the Qing dynasty, all officials were required to wear a top hat. The top of the top hat was set with a bead made of precious stones, and under the bead was a cylindrical tube for the installation of a feather (“Lingzhi”), and that is Lingguan.

According to historical records, the materials of the Lingguan are quite particular. The first-grade civil servants use jadeite Lingguan, and the first-grade military officer use white jade Lingguan. Lingzhi is divided into one-eye, two-eyes and three-eyes. The eyes are the eye-like patterns on the peacock hair, and the three-eyes are the most noble.

The emperors of the Qing Dynasty had made repeated orders and warnings that they were not allowed to wear it arbitrarily. The emperor was very prudent in bestowing Lingzhi on his servants, which shows that it was a glorious grace at the time.

After the decline of the Qing dynasty, many Lingguan were left among the people, but most of them were of poor quality and were even polished into other accessories. Therefore, the top quality products that have survived to this day are unique. Nowadays, museums all over the world have exhibited the Lingguan, which shows its historical value and rarity.

The Lingguan has a cylindrical shape with a hollow center and a semi-circular button at the top. It has a large overall area which consumes a lot of jadeite materials. Nowadays, the jadeite resources are very scarce, so it is a fantasy to waste so much raw materials to produce such kind of goods.

In view of this, ILIA is committed to preserving Chinese history and culture. With a sense of mission, we decided to use a very high-quality and large jadeite stone that we bought decades ago, referring to the records in ancient books and following the traditional specifications of the Qing Dynasty, and went to Beijing to find a master craftsman who passed down the skills of the Qing Imperial Workshop to produce an important pair of full green jadeite Lingguan. It reproduces the nobility, honor and classics in front of everyone.

A pair of full green jadeite Lingguan from ILIA, approximately 62.6×14.8mm and 62.1×15.1mm, are carved from the finest natural old mine jadeite. The high-quality jadeite of evenly green color, very good translucency and texture, is 62mm in length, flawless on the whole, and extremely rare in pairs.
